How to Choose the Perfect Living Room Wallpaper

The living room décor has significance in terms of what it represents within a home as it has an abundance of characteristics associated to it. More than just aesthetically pleasing to the eye it also reflects the homeowner themselves in terms of taste, lifestyle and personality. The room is meant to act as a sanctuary for you and your family or friends; away from all the stresses of life.

The seating should be cosy and comfortable with a television to help unwind by enjoying some entertainment. It doesn’t matter how big the room is you can still create a relaxing and welcoming environment. One aspect that can play a big part in this is the wallpaper. Choosing the correct option here is crucial in how the room is perceived by guests and the environment it creates to you and your family.

The Print

There are a number of materials to select from when making your wallpaper decision, examples of which are silk, velvet, suede, paper, vinyl and embroidered. Each has a different cost, feel and appearance to it which needs to be taken into account. There are also brand names you can opt for such as Ralph Lauren or Christian Lacroix that will give your home an element of class and elegance. However, if you have small children it is best advised to avoid the expensive, more fragile material that can be damaged easily.

Colour Scheme

There are certain colours that have symbolic emotions attached to them which need to be considered before making your purchase. White is of course the safest as it promotes a clean and uncluttered living which alleviates the mind of any stresses. Green, brown and yellow are bold choices but can evoke earthy feelings as their tones represent nature. If this is something you like then you should consider taking the gamble. Blue is another similar earthy choice as it is a metaphor for the sky and sea but also has a safe element as it will usually match to most items of furniture. If you are living as a couple you could choose a romantic element to the room with colours like pink or light red. Colours to avoid, however, are dark red and black as they are associated with darkness, violence and death.

Design

There is a wide variety of options available to your when you visit your local DIY store to pick up some wallpaper. Many come with particularly interesting designs such as flowers, trees, waves and numerous line formations. You should pick a pattern that will not get boring or even annoying to look at after a prolonged period of time. If you have a pastime you enjoy like surfing or playing tennis then you can try an incorporate these environments into your wallpaper choice. It is also best to avoid over complication as you could create a claustrophobic atmosphere which is never healthy.
